      EVENT DETAILS
UA Science Cafe at Tucson Botanical Gardens – 'Coral Reef Resilience: Hope for the Oceans'

Presenter: Diane Thompson, Assistant Professor, Department of Geosciences, Director of Marine Research, Biosphere 2, University of Arizona

About the talk: The Biosphere 2 Ocean (B2O) provides a unique opportunity to test novel solutions for restoring resilient coral reefs that can persist under changing ocean conditions. Key herbivore species have also been introduced to test novel solutions for restoring reef health from a degraded state of "bioremediation." As we work to heal the coral reef in the B2O, we'll learn of the critical, physical, chemical, and biological conditions necessary for rebuilding coral reefs worldwide. This talk will provide an overview and highlight initial insights from the bioremediation of the B2O.

About Science Cafes: Science Cafes, presented by the University of Arizona College of Science, bring the community together with University of Arizona scientists and graduate students in a casual setting. You'll learn about the latest research being conducted, get to know the faces behind the science, and have opportunities to ask questions and deepen your understanding. We have five separate cafe series at five different locations around Tucson, each with their own themes for fascinating science discussions.Audience:
